If I open my door, would I find you there standing right at the doorstep or would it be just an empty space…another empty hall?
For several years, I’ve kept that door locked not wanting someone to find their way in because visitors often leave you nothing but mess.
People will come in. They will just look around and sit down for a while. But will eventually stand up and leave, not wanting to take the whole tour. Not having the time or the care to see what really was in...

I am me. I have always been me, but for some reason or another I want to be someone else. Why is it when I look in the mirror, I see someone that I do not like? Someone in fact, I loathe sometimes. Do I not love myself? Am I not good enough? Did I do something wrong in life that has made me feel this way, or was something done to me to make me feel like this that is buried under years and years of hiding from i...

Our flight from San Francisco to LA was a short hop and no sooner were we in the air than it seemed like we were coming in to land. The airport is quite a way from downtown LA so we took a shuttle bus from the airport to our hotel at a cost of $16 each but the service was fast and efficient, especially as we had a lot of heavy luggage!
We are not ones for going at a leisurely pace and the moment after we dropped our bags at the hotel, we set off to explore the streets of LA. First sto...

With a sad farewell to Las Vegas we were on our way to San Francisco (without flowers in our hair!). As usual, we did what we always do in a new city and that is go on a tour. If you don’t know a place, it is a good way to get an overview. After you can always go back and explore places at your leisure. San Francisco has a nice feel, gentle, easy going and a picturesque city with tree lined streets and beautiful parks. Our first photo stop was at the ‘Golden Gate’ bridge which of course...

From Las Vegas we went on a tour to the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon in Arizona, a wonderful experience as we got to see some of the countryside on the way. From the moment we left Vegas we were travelling across the Mojave Desert, a flat interesting place of rocks and small boulders.
In the distance we could see a mountain range and our bus edges slowly towards it until we were climbing up into the mountains. This place looks like a lunar landscape, as there is no vegetation at al...

Our trip to Las Vegas was so exciting beginning with our flight from LA and just a short hop over desert and snow clad mountains. At night the Las Vegas strip is a blaze with coloured neon lights and every casino is brightly flood lit turning night into day. The sidewalks are a mass of more than merry people clutching their Margaritas, and beers going from one bar, club or casino to another.
Step inside any of the grand casinos and a sea of slot machines and gaming tables seem to stre...

Our holiday in March and April of 2009 was one of the best as we were able to spend a lot of time with my family in Lapu-Lapu City, on Mactan Island, Cebu. Two different family groups came over from Mindanao so after being away back home in Sydney for 3+ years we were all together again and it was wonderful.
We always like to explore new places so instead of flying direct to Manila from Sydney, we flew to Hong Kong and got a connecting flight direct to Cebu. This turned out to be quic...

Aside from the natural distinctive aroma of the roasted beans of brewed coffee, I most love simple conversation over a cup of coffee blended with the presence of my friends.
One chilly winter morning, my friends and I were sitting around a small table in our cafeteria talking about trivial things. From what I know, that was once called “power” and the definition of “power” as ...

This brief history of the Philippines , told by a philosopher of the streets, is probably closest to the truth about ourselves.
WHAT'S the big deal when Lapu-Lapu killed Magellan in 1521? Nothing much really. During Lapu-Lapu's time, Mactan was strictly tribal. Think small, gid. There were no big ideas such as nationalism or geopolitics.
Lapu-Lapu was simply, the local siga-siga and Magellan was the culture-shocked Westerner, a native first-timer in the exotic east....
